Our process

Plant Selection:

From an assessment of your growing site and preferences, we'll find the right trees and plants to fit your space and function in the long term. We have long-standing relationships with many local growers, and hand-select your plants from their nurseries to ensure we can provide the best available. We plant balled and burlapped (B&B), containerized/container-grown, and bare root plants.

We favor native plants and species but love the diversity and interest brought by the wide variety of plants in the nursery trade. We have a well-practiced eye for adding to existing landscapes, so we'll leave things looking great now and for the decades to come.

Expert Planting Techniques:

Proper planting is crucial for the long-term health and vitality of trees. Unfortunately, we often see poor planting practices (too deep/too high, twine left around trunks, improper mulching, etc.) that can lead to major tree health and survival problems in the future (girdling roots, stunted growth, etc.). At Northern Arborists, we always ensure proper planting depth, correction of root issues, and gentle handling of plant material during delivery. These practices ensure that plants are able to survive and thrive.

Warranty and maintenance care:

Occasionally, trees do not survive the trauma of transplant. All plantings are covered by a full one-year guarantee. If a plant fails to establish or doesn't make it through the winter, we'll replace it at no cost if proper care has been provided. We provide a maintenance guide for the care of young trees and plants.

As a client of Northern Arborists, you'll also have us available for structural pruning and other tree maintenance through the years.
